Cookery Sessions

The Learning Disability Cookery Sessions in Buxton are designed to provide adults with learning disabilities the opportunity to learn cooking skills in a supportive, hands-on environment. These sessions focus on building practical life skills, fostering independence, and promoting social interaction, all while having fun in the kitchen.

Physical and Practical Skills Development:

  • Motor Skills and Coordination: Cooking requires the use of fine and gross motor skills. Chopping, stirring, and mixing help improve hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and manual strength.

  • ​Nutritional Awareness: The cookery sessions teach participants how to prepare nutritious, balanced meals. This can improve overall health and help individuals make healthier food choices in their everyday lives.
  • Independence in Daily Living: Learning how to prepare meals helps increase self-sufficiency and provides the confidence needed to manage day-to-day life. Participants gain the skills to plan, shop for, and prepare healthy meals.

  • Time Management and Organization: Preparing a meal from start to finish involves planning, organizing, and timing. These are valuable skills that can be applied in other areas of life.
