Our Story

Bright Choice Saturday Club was founded in October 2010 by Tracey following the death of her uncle, who had learning disabilities. Tracey recognized a significant gap in services for adults with learning disabilities in the High Peak area. Observing first and the limited social and recreational opportunities available to people with learning disabilities, she decided to establish a social club to address this need. The demand for services and social support became even more apparent as the club flourished. This led to the development of Bright Opportunities, a community-based day service in Buxton, which was founded to further address the need for creative, community-oriented day activities for adults with learning disabilities. Bright Opportunities Day Service Bright Opportunities is a community interest company (CIC), established in response to the demand for more community-based alternatives to traditional day services. Bright Opportunities is located in the heart of Buxton, a town in the High Peak, and is designed to be a not-for-profit service that provides high-quality, person-centered care. The service offers a variety of leisure, educational, and developmental activities, which are rooted in the local community. Instead of relying solely on a dedicated building or facility, Bright Opportunities uses local resources to create a broad range of engaging activities for its users. This not only helps individuals engage with their community, but also promotes social inclusion, independence, and confidence. Core Features of Bright Opportunities: Person-Centered Care: Every service user is encouraged to make choices about the activities they participate in, ensuring that the service meets their individual needs and preferences. Community-Based Activities: Bright Opportunities emphasizes integrating service users into the local community. Rather than offering services solely within a dedicated building, activities are conducted in a range of local venues and community spaces, allowing service users to feel part of the wider community. Wide Range of Activities: The service provides a mix of leisure, educational, and developmental activities tailored to the interests and abilities of each individual. This can include anything from arts and crafts, outdoor activities, to local outings and learning opportunities. Support for Independence: Through engagement in community activities and social interaction, the service helps individuals build life skills, gain confidence, and foster independence. The Need and Impact The establishment of both Bright Choice and Bright Opportunities has filled a significant gap in services for adults with learning disabilities in the High Peak. Tracey’s personal connection to the issue and her background in working with adults with learning disabilities has given her the insight to develop services that truly meet the needs of this often underserved community. Both initiatives have seen continued success and growth, with Bright Opportunities helping individuals with learning disabilities lead fuller, more integrated lives. The demand for such services is growing, as more individuals recognize the benefits of community-based support that empowers people to make choices, engage with others, and build skills for independence. Conclusion Bright Choice Saturday Club and Bright Opportunities Day Service represent a powerful model of community-driven care for adults with learning disabilities. Through these not-for-profit initiatives, Tracey has created valuable services that prioritize choice, inclusion, and independence for individuals in the High Peak. These services not only meet the immediate needs of their members but also help raise awareness of the challenges faced by adults with learning disabilities
